A positive encourager and cheerleader – not just a coach
Far too often we overlook opportunities to acknowledge the efforts of others, that, whether “big” or “small”, impact us in a meaningful, lasting way.
As a Millennial woman in what is commonly known as a “male-dominated” industry, establishing credibility, building relationships, and securing sponsors and advocates are a career imperative. Simply stated – doing excellent work is not enough. My first career-related interaction with Rusty occurred when I was preparing for an executive-level presentation. Rusty did not offer to review the presentation – he asked if I would like to do a dry run of the entire presentation so that he could provide me with feedback on personal effectiveness while assessing the strength and clarity of the slides. Wow! I was not only fully prepared for that executive meeting, but I also had a level of confidence that enabled me to get through the presentation effortlessly, establish credibility, secure sponsors and advocates, and receive high praise from all in attendance.
Rusty also volunteered to endure the painstaking task of reviewing my resume and cover letter upon learning of my desire to apply for a more senior position. Breaking down the “wall of words” that greeted readers of my resume was a challenging and yet Rusty walked me through how to best tell my career story in manageable, logical, concise groupings. He did not do the work for me – he guided me through the process which allowed me to strengthen my skill set. I am grateful for the patience Rusty has consistently demonstrated over the years and his commitment to helping me grow professionally. He has been a positive encourager and cheerleader – not just a coach – which is why I am delighted to acknowledge Rusty for the guidance he selflessly provides.
